The Knoxville Fire Department is having a new truck built to better fit the community’s needs, according to Knoxville Fire Chief Cal Wyman. Chief Wyman tells KNIA/KRLS News the current department trucks are between 28 to 30 years old and have become expensive to maintain. Wyman says the new truck will cut down on maintenance expenses while also bringing better service to the community.
The Knoxville Fire Department has a budget of $490,000 for the new truck. Chief Wyman adds the truck could also help lower the current Insurance Services Office rating, or ISO for Knoxville, a rating that is used when determining insurance costs for businesses and homeowners.
Chief Wyman says the department is still in search of a used ladder truck to continue to lower the ISO rating for Knoxville and help benefit the community.
