The Indianola-based Des Moines Metro Opera is preparing for the grand opening of their renovated and expanded headquarters coming in June, after construction has been completed during the spring. General and Artistic Director of the DSM Metro Opera Michael Egel tells KNIA News the renovations of the Carnegie Library in Indianola was a large undertaking, but it was important to continue to showcase the historic building and what it has come to represent in the area.

“It’s a visual showcase. What we do on stage, we take something that is artform that features works of other centuries and other time periods, we take the old and try to make it new again. This building is a very physical reminder of that blend being of the contemporary and the traditional. I think the architects and certainly the work we’ve done with the design, and color, and artwork choices have all been with the idea of trying to seamlessly marry the old with the new and I think we’ve been successful in that.”

The grand opening celebration will take place on Saturday, June 29th from 5-7:30pm.
