The Pella baseball team was back in action Thursday evening as they hosted Indianola to begin the second round of Little Hawkeye Conference play. It was a tight game throughout, but the Indians would prevail by a final score of 5-4 in a game heard on 92.1 KRLS. Each team scored once in the second inning, but Indianola took the lead in the fifth, scoring three more to go up 4-1. The Dutch answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the frame to tie it at 4-4. One Indianola run in the sixth proved to be the winning score, as Pella was unable to answer in either the sixth or seventh innings.
Leading offensively for the Dutch was Gabe Thomas, going 2-4 with an RBI. Joey Bylund led the way for Indianola with two hits and an RBI. Indianola’s Gabe Zwanzinger was the winning pitcher, entering in relief in the fifth inning. He held the Dutch scoreless while giving up only two hits and striking out three batters. Pella’s Jason Knox entered in the fifth and is the losing pitcher. He gave up one earned run, two hits and had one strikeout. Indianola improves to 10-9 overall, 8-3 in the conference and will host Bishop Heelan Friday night. Pella drops to 6-13 overall, 3-8 in Little Hawkeye games and has the weekend off before hosting Norwalk for a doubleheader on Monday.
