Central College is offering a unique opportunity for prospective high school students with its STEM Exploration event this week. The two-day program this Thursday and Friday will allow prospective students to explore the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Participants will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with Central professors, spending time in both their indoor and outdoor labs and working in Vermeer Science Center, focused on topics such as bat netting, chemical reactions using slime, DNA sequencing, heat transfer and thermal imaging, and statistics with dolphins and robotics programming. In addition to workshops, students will interact with STEM alumni and current Central students, take place in team-building activities and attend a session presented by Pella Corporation. At no cost to those attending, students have the option to spend the night on campus in one of Central’s residence halls. While the event lasts two days, students may choose to attend one or both days of STEM Exploration. For more information or to register for STEM Exploration, visit www.central.edu/visit.
