On Wednesday, Knoxville City Council Member Cal Stephens resigned from the council. Stephens is the fourth council member to resign from the council in the past four years. Knoxville City Manager Aaron Adams tells KNIA/KRLS News the council will need to approve the resignation at the next city council meeting on Monday. Adams says, following the approval the council will need to decide between holding a special election or appointing someone to fill the vacant position through the end of the year. Adams says given the timing of the resignation with the next city council elections in November he believes the council will be more likely to choose to appoint someone to the vacant position instead of opting for a special election, something that could potentially cost the city between $10,000 to $12,000.
