The City of Leighton is celebrating their community and America’s independence this Saturday, due to weather. Activities start at 4:30 p.m., which includes food stands from 4:30 to 9 p.m. and several educational activities from 5 to 9:30 p.m., including an archery range, grape harvester, pioneer farming, rope making, Mahaska Wildlife, monarch butterfly details, a robotics demonstration by Recharged Robotics, and emergency vehicles from Pella and Oskaloosa. Additionally, inflatables, face painting, balloon art, and caricature drawings will also take place from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Leighton’s parade begins at 7:30 p.m. The annual adult softball game begins at 9 p.m., leading into a patriotic message from former State Representative Guy Vander Linden, which is just before the fireworks at approximately 9:55 p.m. The KNIA/KRLS Lil’ Big Red Radio will be in the parade and playing music during the fireworks celebration. Patriotic music will air from 9 to 11 p.m. on KNIA/KRLS.
