The hottest stretch of the summer starts continues in south central Iowa. Heat index values are expected to approach and likely top 100 degrees this afternoon. All residents are reminded to stay hydrated and to take frequent breaks when outdoors, and in air conditioning whenever possible. Dr. Tim Yoder with Tri County Veterinary Clinic in Pella reminds all pet owners to never leave animals alone in a car for any period of time. The same goes for children, and parents are reminded to double check before they leave, as the interior of a car can heat up 20 degrees warmer than the air temperature in as little as ten minutes. Highs in the low-to-mid 90s will continue through Sunday, and during the week, increased chances for thunderstorms return to the forecast. Stay tuned to 92.1 KRLS for the latest weather information.
