The Knoxville City Council met in regular session Monday. They held a discussion regarding the old East Elementary Building and the future of the property following the Knoxville Public Library’s move to their newly renovated building. The council directed city staff to investigate possible demolition cost of the building while also reaching out to potential developers interested in developing residential properties.

The council also held three public hearings during the meeting. One was regarding a Planned Unit Development District, a type of zoning which allows for more flexibility. The second was regarding a zoning code amendment pertaining to fences which would update the code to include all information in one section. And the third was regarding the rezoning of 1906 E. Pleasant to agricultural.

They approved an agreement for patient ambulance transport services between the city and EveryStep. The council accepted the resignation letter of Councilman Cal Stephens and decided to fill the vacant position by appointment. There will be an interview process with the final decision and appointment of a new council member by August 19th.
