An individual national championship and two team conference championships highlighted the 2018-2019 athletic year at Central College, according to Athletic Director Eric Van Kley.
Joining Trevor Castle on last night’s Central College Radio Coaches Corner, Van Kley was quick to point out the efforts of a multi-time national champ in track and field.
“I think as the history books are eventually written, and we look at it more big picture, I think what Will Daniels has accomplished is nothing short of staggering. For non track people, the event that he competes in is the decathlon and there’s a point system that goes with that. He had the second highest point total in the history division three in that event. To put that into perspective, at Central we just think ‘Oh, Will Daniels won another national championship’, and it’s just old hat. But there are schools that have had track and field for 50 years and don’t have a national champion.”
Van Kley also cited Central’s American Rivers Conference championships in women’s golf and softball as on-field highlights of this past year.
