The Pella City Council will consider an engineering services agreement for a new municipal telecommunications utility later this month. City Administrator Mike Nardini says the city and community partners have been working with Farr Technologies to develop a business plan for a utility service providing high speed internet, cable TV, and telephone services for all residents. Nardini says council will receive an update about the project at a special work session this Tuesday. He says if a contract is approved, the city will be looking to formalize financing and potential phasing for the project later this year, with construction starting next spring and a long-term completion goal of early 2021. In May of 2018, more than 90 percent of voters gave the Pella City Council approval to proceed with a telecommunications utility operated by the city. The special meeting Tuesday begins at 6 p.m. in the Public Safety Complex on Liberty Street.
