A Cedar Rapids area man is going around the state to test pumps, hoses, and nozzles on fire trucks to ensure they are in proper working order. Mike Pint with Apparatus Testing Services says it’s good practice to keep all fire trucks at their best to ensure they are keeping the public safe.
“We don’t have options when it’s time to go,” he says. “You only have so many fire trucks, and certain trucks only do certain things, whereas if a city has a dump truck and it doesn’t start–it’s no big deal, they can jump out of one and go get another dump truck and leave. but fire service and police and ambulance don’t work that way, so stuff has to be in top shape.”
Pint has worked for more than three decades as a firefighter and mechanic for the Cedar Rapids Fire Department. He was in Pella earlier this week to test both Pella City and Rural fire trucks. Hear more from Pint about keeping fire trucks at their best on today’s In Depth with Dr. Bob Leonard.
