The Pella School Board appointed a new school board member at the second of two meetings scheduled during summer break. School Board President Joan Corbin recommended and appointed Annette Smith to fill the vacancy in District One left by Lisa Jansen, who resigned in June and passed away on July 3rd after several months of battling cancer. Smith is the Director of Pathways of Pella and a registered nurse, as well as a mother of four–including two school-aged children. She will fill the seat starting in August until the November election, when she intends to run to finish the remainder of the term. The board approved agreements for several vendor services relating to food, dairy, bread, and chemical supplies.The board also approved next year’s insurance for property, liability, worker’s compensation, and other functions, as well as employee handbook changes.
