Central College will welcome its largest incoming class in five years with this fall’s group of 365 students. Enrollment for the 2019-20 school year includes 346 first-year students and 19 transfer students. Central Dean of Admissions Carol Williamson says the expected fall class includes students from 26 states, as far away as Hawaii and Massachusetts, and nearly two-thirds are from Iowa. Illinois leads the way with 38 students, while 19 students from Arizona also are headed to Central. Williamson says the boost in enrollment comes after several factors made enrollment more difficult for smaller, private schools in the state. Classes for the fall semester begin Aug. 28. New students arrive on campus Aug. 24, with returning students joining them Aug. 26.
