A line of strong thunderstorms passing through south central Iowa brought a temporary cool down to the area and needed rain.
Many thermometers dropped 20 degrees over the lunch hour earlier today as strong winds in excess of 40 to 50 miles per hour and precipitation fell on what was otherwise predicted to be a hot, steamy day. At the 92.1 KRLS studio in Pella, .34″ of rain was recorded in approximately 45 minutes, while .86 dropped at the KNIA/KRLS studios in Knoxville. At Lake Red Rock, .63″ of rain fell, while .72 was recorded at the Middle River near Indianola as well. Wind damage was reported in Knoxville near West Washington and Roche, as a tree was snapped. There was no warning for the storm from the National Weather Service.
Dangerous heat is expected to return to the forecast tomorrow, and humidity will ramp up later this afternoon. Stay tuned to KNIA/KRLS for the latest weather information.
