Area high school football players had critical roles as the South defeated the North in the 47th annual Iowa Shrine Bowl All-Star Game Saturday. Pella’s Ryan Gustafson threw for a touchdown — the second of the game, to give the South a 17-0 lead. All three point after attempts and a 26 yard field goal were made by Pella Christian’s Nathan De Bruin. The Eagles’ Noah Treimer and PCM’s Wes Cummings also competed in the annual All-Star Showcase, with Cummings earning a fumble recovery. The Shrine Bowl is a showcase of graduated high school players before they head to college.
