A Tama man was arrested following the report of a man passed out at the Elk Rock State Park sign north of Knoxville. According to court documents the morning of July 7th officers responded to a report of a man passed out against the sign to Elk Rock State Park in rural Marion County. Upon arrival officers found 56-year-old Gary Shaw of Tama. While speaking with Shaw officers observed him acting in a manner in which he was believed to be under the influence of a controlled substance. Shaw was observed to be jittery, had uncontrollable body movements, dilated pupils and pale, clammy skin.

Officers observed a knife and Shaw admitted to having a digital scale. During a search, officers located a black leather pouch containing a glass pipe used to smoke methamphetamine as well as a bag containing approximately 2 grams of a crystal substance which field tested positive for methamphetamine. Shaw was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance 3rd or subsequent offense a class D felony as well as possession of drug paraphernalia a serious misdemeanor.
