A ministry based in Pella with international ties will be bringing a taste of the Carribbean to the Tulip City in September.

Executive Leader of Many Hands for Haiti Tim Brand says they will host an event called “Pignon in Pella” on Saturday, September 7th from 6:00pm to 8:30pm in the Molengracht and Pella Opera House. He says the inspiration for the event came from a U.S. Embassy travel restriction issued against Haiti in February of this year, creating operational obstacles for the non-profit, which usually sends hundreds of short-term volunteers on service trips each year. The event includes Haitian inspired appetizers in the Molengracht, while participants can engage with interactive displays to help understand the impact of Many Hands’ programs in Haiti. Then, guests will move to the Pella Opera House for dinner provided by B Fabulous BBQ and a short program from Brand. This event will be Many Hands for Haiti’s first evening fundraising event and will replace the Color Blast 5K.

“The event will provide an opportunity for those in Iowa to see a unique perspective on Haiti. With Caribbean inspired music and appetizers, and insights into the life-transforming work we are engaged with, we are planning on bringing the sights and sounds of Haiti to Pella,” said Brand. “The event comes after we have seen massive growth in our programming and projects in Haiti. However, with a majority of the planned team trips unable to proceed this year, many of the projects the short-term mission teams support is in jeopardy of not happening, resulting in more hardship for the Haitian people.”

“The idea for the Pella in Pignon event came as a direct result of this situation. As we haven’t been able to send people to Haiti as we had intended, we thought, ’why not bring Pignon to Pella instead?’”
