The second annual Your Life Matters 5k Run/Walk to raise suicide prevention awareness is coming up. The run is scheduled for Saturday, September 7th. Registration for the event is now open, with a deadline of August 15th to receive a shirt. Last year, the run featured over 500 participants and raised over $15,000 for suicide prevention awareness. Organizer of the run Michaela Bigaouette tells KNIA/KRLS News they have tried to make registering simple this year. She says people can go to www.getmeregisterded.com sign up and if they can not run, there is an option to just donate to the run as well. Bigaouette says participants have to register by August 15th to get a shirt and last year they were able to get more shirts but she says she would like to avoid that problem this year. The proceeds from this year’s 5k will go towards scheduling mental health speaker Jeff Yeldon, who will visit Knoxville September 30th through October 1st to speak with the community as well as Knoxville High School and Middle School students.
