Three years ago…Melcher-Dallas did not have a girls track and field squad. No one went out and the program was in danger of shutting down. Fast forward three years later to this past May at the Blue Oval at the State Track and Field Meet and not only the girls but the boys took six events to Des Moines…which is our number five moment in Melcher-Dallas’s academic year for 2018/2019. The show stopper for the Saints was sophomore J’Lyn Knutson…who won nearly every race she entered this season. She continued to run with the best in the state at the Blue Oval with a 15th place finish in the 3,000 and opened a lot of eyes in the 1500 with a sixth place finish. Knutson told KNIA Sports competition at the state level helped raise her level. Knutson will be a junior this season.
