The Knoxville VFW Post 3519’s annual Ruck for Vets event is coming up. This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, September 14th. Participants will carry 40 pounds of gear and can walk, run or jog with all proceeds from the event going towards the VFW 3519 Relief Fund. Junior Vice Commander for the Iowa VFW and Senior Vice Commander for Knoxville VFW Post 3519 Michael Braman tells KNIA/KRLS News last year the post used money from the fund to help pay for funeral expenses for a veteran and former post member that the family wouldn’t have been able to pay. Braman says the fund is also used to help keep the lights on for veterans who struggle with bills or to help pay for groceries when families need it. Registration for the event is $10 per person or $30 per person if you which you receive a t-shirt. A separate option to purchase just a t-shirt for $20 is also available. The deadline to register to receive a shirt is Sunday, September 1st. For more information tune it today’s Let’s Talk Knoxville.
