During Monday’s Knoxville City Council meeting the council approved support for the Boone, Jasper, Marion And Warren Counties’ Housing Trust Fund. The purpose of the fund is to address the affordable housing needs within the region through coordination and long-term planning. Knoxville City Manager Aaron Adams tells KNIA/KRLS News the fund will only bring in about $210,000 annually to be spread between the four counties. Adams says the money will not be used for new development but instead could be used for rental rehab, weatherization or replacement of furnaces as well as down payment assistance. According to Adams the funds will come from the Iowa Finance Authority and do require a local match. He says of the 99 counties in Iowa, Boone, Jasper, Marion and Warren counties are the only counties that do not have a Housing Trust Fund.
