Today we continue our top 10 countdown of the top moments of the 2018-19 school year with number one. One of the most iconic plays in recent memory paid off for the Simpson College football team this fall, as the Storm took down conference favorite Wartburg on the road in overtime on a two point conversion. A back and forth first half had the Storm up 21-17 at halftime, but the Knights had all the momentum in the second half, taking a six point lead into the final moments of the fourth quarter. A long drive ended with a touchdown to tie it with 10 seconds remaining, with the Storm just needing to hit an extra point for the victory. Fate wouldn’t allow it to be that easy, as the extra point went awry to force overtime. The Knights scored early on for the first overtime possession, putting the pressure on Simpson. After three straight incompletions, Simpson faced fourth-and-10 when QB Tanner Krueger found Cam Bunting in the middle of the field. Bunting weaved through traffic to find the endzone, setting up a dramatic two-point try for the win. Krueger handed the ball off to Bunting, who tossed the ball to WR Austin Hronich, who hit Krueger in the corner of the end zone for the dramatic 37-26 win. The win put the Storm in first place in conference play, but late season losses to Central and Dubuque would lead to the Knights winning the conference overall.
