A Brighton man was arrested in Knoxville after a person going through vehicles was reported Saturday. According to court documents, 18-year-old Jacob Eldredge of Brighton was observed by law enforcement officers at the intersection of North Harlan Street and West Pleasant Street in Knoxville. He matched the description of a person reportedly going through vehicles nearby. Eldredge allegedly ran away on foot as officers initiated their emergency lights. Officers apprehended Eldredge, who admitted to having a stolen firearm. The officers located a Glock 21 chambered .45, which had a full magazine of 13 rounds under a parked car approximately a half a block away from where Eldredge was apprehended.

The day before Eldredge’s apprehension, a resident in Knoxville told police she had received a notification that her credit card was declined. The victim checked her card statement and found two unauthorized transactions and a third declined transaction. The victim stated that her credit card was missing from her wallet that she left in her unlocked vehicle. Police were able to obtain surveillance video of the victim’s card being used at Walmart in Knoxville and observed Eldredge as the person using the card. Eldredge was arrested and charged with interference with official acts, a class D felony; carrying weapons, an aggravated misdemeanor; burglary in the third degree, an aggravated misdemeanor; and identity theft under $1,500, an aggravated misdemeanor.

In addition to his most recent charges, Eldredge also has charges pending from an incident on July 24th which include operating while under the influence, four counts of theft in the fifth degree in which he allegedly stole approximately $1,200 worth of items from Walmart in Knoxville, as well as carrying a weapon, knife over eight inches an aggravated misdemeanor. He was taken to the Marion County Jail.
