From his beginnings on the stage of Pella Jazz I to recording and touring for one of the most popular rock bands of all time, Dave Keuning’s journey in music has taken him across the globe from his hometown roots in the Tulip City. And after the longtime lead guitarist of the Killers stepped back from touring in 2017, he found renewed energy and focus working on his first solo album, titled Prismism. In a conversation with Dr. Bob Leonard, Keuning said the turn to focus on his own music opened new doors creatively, and some of the songs brought him back to central Iowa during recording and producing. Keuning says the foundations for his career started when he was a teenager in Pella, which included instruction and guidance from Dick Redman, who was a longtime director of Pella Jazz I.
