The Pella City Council held a special work session Tuesday to discuss the future of the Pella Community Center. Council thoroughly reviewed an action plan given earlier this year by Short Elliott Hendrickson, which provides two options to consider — build a new, 47,000-square foot facility near the Pella Aquatic Center or renovate the current facility on Union Street. No formal action was taken by the council, however, the work session included the pros and cons of each option and further details from the plan developed by SEH. According to a timeline, council will likely have a few more meetings and additional opportunities for public input before making a decision.
Following discussion on the community center’s future, council heard an update about the status of the City of Pella’s finances during the current fiscal year and how the budget can fit several upcoming road projects.
