The Pella School District is weighing options on how they can help solve a child care shortage in the community. The Pella School Board heard a presentation at a work session this week about a potential private-public partnership to create a new Early Childhood Center. Superintendent Greg Ebeling says the proposal centers around the district partnering with the Pella Early Learning Center to expand the options available to parents. He says the proposal would include a measure of funding and support from local businesses, and has the schools creating an expanded preschool facility including a child care component for three and four year olds. Under the plan — which has not been approved, the Pella School District would take ownership of the Pella Early Learning Center, which would continue to operate and provide care for infants to 24 months old in conjunction with programs run by the school. The next decision the school board is considering would be potential purchase of a current facility in Pella or if they want to proceed with potential new construction.
