The defending Class 2A State Champion PCM football team will have to wait a few more weeks before being allowed to play on their newly constructed home field. The Mustangs, who are scheduled to open the season Friday, August 30th at home against Newton, will play their first two games of the season at Central College according to PCM Head Coach and Athletic Director Greg Bonnett. Heavy rain throughout the spring delayed the construction of the field and left the program wondering where their first few games of the season would be played. Bonnett tells KNIA/KRLS Sports he was a little worried that they weren’t going to find a place to play their home games but luckily Leslie Duinink, a PCM school board member and Central College employee made a call on Bonnett’s behalf which helped establish a contract and place to play for the Mustangs first two home games. The Mustangs will now face both Newton on August 30th and West Marshall on September 6th at Central College before opening up their new facility on September 20th against Pella Christian. The new athletic complex when finished will include new synthetic turf, plaza landscaping additions, new home and visitor bleachers, a new press box, renovated restrooms, improvements to the storm water drainage system, a new track surface and a video scoreboard.
