A line of severe thunderstorms brought damage throughout the region this morning.
The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team was on the air from 5:15 to 7 a.m. for several severe thunderstorm warnings and two tornado warnings issued in the area.
Several trees were snapped in Melcher-Dallas, where a tornado was confirmed on radar at approximately 6 a.m. (see photos below). That same tornado caused widespread damage to buildings near and in Lacona as well.
A semi overturned on the Mile Long Bridge, and the driver was transported by Knoxville Fire and Rescue to an area ER to be evaulated for injuries. Power lines and trees were knocked down in Knoxville. Significant structural damage was also seen in Tracy and Bussey. Heavy rain fell throughout much of Warren and Marion Counties, with .8 inches recorded at both the KNIA/KRLS Studios in Pella and Knoxville. Backup generators kicked in during coverage of the storms as several power outages impacted Knoxville and Marion and Warren Counties.
