According to the Iowa Department of Corrections, George Jochem Hettinga was pronounced dead due to natural causes at 2:16 a.m. today at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinic due to chronic illness. Hettinga was 67 years old at the time of his death.

Hettinga had been serving a 60-year maximum term for the crime of Controlled Substance Violations (with habitual offender enhancements) and Habitual Offender – Property from Marion County. His incarceration began on October 18, 2018.
