Local residents continue to bring in awards from this year’s Iowa State Fair. In the FFA Horse Show, Carson Shinn of Knoxville took home the Reserve Champion Trail Class, Champion Senior Western Pleasure, and Reserve Champion Bareback Pleasure awards. Jayce Hughes of Knoxville also received the Reserve Champion English Equitation award and the Knoxville FFA placed 3rd overall in the Equestrian Team standings.
The top quick bread makers put their best creations to the test in the Quick Breads competition with local residents bringing a host of different awards. Barb Miller of Prairie City cleaned up in the competition bring home first place in the Apricot Bread and Dried Fruit Bread categories as well as second place in the Corn Meal Muffins and Fresh Fruit Bread categories and third place in the Cheese Bread, Cranberry Bread, Nut Bread, Pumpkin with Nuts Bread, Pumpkin Date Bread, Pumpkin Raisin Bread, and Vegetable Bread categories. Brenda Becker of Pella took home third place in Flavored Biscuits category and Lorainne Doke of Indianola took third in the Pumpkin without Nuts Bread category and Diana Barker of Indianola took first in the Scones category. All entries were judged on general appearance, texture, flavor and aroma.
