pella-high-3

Two top ten teams will square off tonight in Pella when the fifth-ranked Little Dutch entertain number seven Dallas Center-Grimes.

The Mustangs are coming off of a 1-8 rebuilding season, but return almost every key player and are garnering preseason hype.

Meanwhile, Pella is looking to bounce back from its first season that didn’t end in the UNI-Dome in a half-decade.  They’ll have to do it with a new quarterback, as two year starter Ryan Gustafson is gone to graduation.

Head Coach Jay McKinstrey says that they’ll use a two quarterback system for the first time in his 23 years with the Little Dutch, as juniors Aaron Dows and Ryan Mace will both take snaps, and they each bring unique talents to the position.

“Aaron loves to run the football.  He wants to get it and go, but believe it or not he’s a very good thrower too.  Obviously he throws the baseball well, and he can throw a football well, too. When Ryan is on, he throws the ball hard and it’s going to be hard for defenses to stop that.  Even on short routes if he can put it on the spot. And he can run the ball well, too. Aaron’s probably a better runner and Ryan’s got the cannon for an arm, but they’re both pretty good at the other one, too.”

Tonight’s matchup between the Little Dutch and the Mustangs can be heard on the KRLS2 stream at www.kniakrls.com.  Trevor Castle and Randy Sikkema will call the action, beginning with pregame at 6:30 and the opening kickoff at 7:30.
