While recent rain continues to help, abnormally dry conditions remain in Marion County. According to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor report, areas primarily along and north of the Des Moines River and Lake Red Rock remain abnormally dry. After below average precipitation in July, August has made up some of that deficit, with several moderate to heavy rain events over the past few weeks.
