The defensive effort of the Central College men’s soccer team stole the show in a 3-0 victory over Iowa Wesleyan University Friday night. The Dutch (1-0) toppled the Tigers (0-1) in the season-opening match for both teams. A youthful Dutch starting lineup featured three freshmen and four sophomores, but a veteran backline piloted the clean sheet. Senior keeper Andrew Mathys had four saves in the shutout victory as classmates Taylor Petkovich and Landon Daniels headlined the back row. The Dutch will host the University of the Ozarks on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Eagles (0-0-1) played Nebraska Wesleyan University to a 3-3 draw Friday in Pella in a neutral-site contest.
