While there has been plenty of discussion, the future of childcare for the Pella Community School district is far from decided. Superintendent Greg Ebeling says there are several factors to consider as the board determines whether or not to get into childcare. The initial idea was for the district to provide wrap-around care to preschool students — meaning parents wouldn’t have to take time in their days to move kids around. Since then, Ebeling says more ambitious plans have been discussed, with a potential new facility housing both 3-year-old and 4-year-old preschool with a childcare component, which would free up space in the current elementary buildings at Lincoln and Madison. Additionally, he says the district is also exploring potential partnerships to provide care for children from birth to kindergarten to bolster the community’s needs.
