Over the past two months, the Knoxville Police Department conducted two traffic enforcement projects based on Iowa’s Move Over, Slow Down law. Both projects were conducted on Highway 5/92 within Knoxville city limits. During those projects, the department was assisted by Motor Vehicle Enforcement (MVE) and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. According to the department, 62 traffic stops were made which resulted in 47 Move Over, Slow Down citations, ten Move Over, Slow Down warnings, four other citations and  20 other warnings. The department would like to thank Officer Joel Burkgren for his hard work constructing and coordinating both projects as well as his dedication to keeping the public and fellow law enforcement officers safe on our roadways. Iowa’s Move Over, Slow Down law was enacted in 2002 and requires drivers to move over or slow down for stopped emergency vehicles with flashing lights. On July 1st, the law was expanded to include utility maintenance vehicles.
