After a lackluster first half, the Central College men’s soccer team woke up the offensive attack for a 2-1 victory against the University of Northwestern – St. Paul Wednesday afternoon. The Dutch (3-0-0) were sluggish in the first half, only mustering nine shot attempts and yielding eight shot attempts against the Eagles (0-0-2). Freshmen midfielders Matthew West and Nick Ashton connected for a goal at the 47:15 mark, West’s second goal of the season. Less than four minutes later, Brant Mueller headed in a free kick off the foot of Taylor Petkovich to make it 2-0. The first road trip of the season will take the Dutch to Fulton, Missouri on Saturday, September 7 for a match against Westminster College at 3:30 p.m.
Assisting on the first goal of the game and then striking for two goals of her own, senior Mikaela Erickson came up big in a 4-2 Central College women’s soccer victory against University of Northwestern – St. Paul Wednesday night. Erickson had goals in the 11th and 16th minutes, and says it was important to bounce back after a tie earlier this week.
Central will take to the road for a match Saturday night at the University of Wisconsin – Platteville, starting at 6 p.m. The Dutch will play the next day at 2 p.m. in Chicago, Illinois against North Park University.
