Taking seven of the top-nine spots, the Central College men’s cross country team breezed past the competition to a team title at the Dutch Invitational Friday night.
In the four-team field, Central tallied 22 points, topping second-place Grinnell’s 51 points. Senior Daniel Sunvold of Monroe was the top finisher for Central, crossing the line second with a time of 19 minutes, 34.9 seconds.
A quintet of first-year runners scored for the Central women in a second-place finish.
The Dutch scored 32 points, finishing five behind Grinnell College’s 27. Miranda Kruiswyk clocked in at 20:33.7, taking second place overall and pacing the Dutch.
After a rocky front nine, the Central College men’s golf team settled down and is tied for 14th place at the season-opening 20-team Carthage College Tim Kopka Memorial Tournament Friday.
Competing at the 6,598-yard, par-71 Randall Oaks Golf Club, four of the five Dutch players cut their scores on the back nine. Central carded 308 in the first of two rounds in the 36-hole tourney.
Today, the men’s golf team wraps up play in Wisconsin, the women’s golf team plays in round one of the Wartburg Fall Invitational, women’s tennis is at Dubuque and Loras, volleyball plays a pair of matches in Minnesota, men’s soccer is at Westminster of Missouri and women’s soccer is at Platteville.
