After falling behind 13-0 in the first quarter Saturday, the Central College football team outscored DePauw (IN) 45-6 the rest of the way in a 45-19 win in front of the home fans at Ron & Joyce Schipper Stadium.
The Dutch offense sputtered out of the gate, and special teams allowed DePauw great field position as the Tigers bolted out to a two touchdown lead. Central’s offense, behind junior quarterback Blaine Hawkins, finally found its rhythm in the second quarter, scoring four times before intermission.
The Tigers scored on the first drive of the third quarter before Central rattled off two more TDs and a field goal to put the game away.
Hawkins was 23-of-34 passing for 320 yards and three scores, with Tanner Schminke catching a team high seven passes for 119 yards. Jason Hopp’s 55 yards paced a Dutch ground game that racked up 199 yards.
Central is 2-0 and has a bye week next Saturday as the rest of the American Rivers Conference opens league play. The Dutch return to action on September 28th for homecoming against Loras.
