The Indians boys and girls cross country squads were in action at Valley, with the girls placing third with 92 points, and the boys earning a 6th place finish with 161 points. Freshman Emily Naughton paced the field for a first place finish with a time of 20:02, while Ashley Rockhold and Joey Werling placed 14th and 17th respectively. Logan Hoger was the top finisher for the Indians boys squad, placing 10th overall in the meet, while Jeb Borgmeyer was next up for the Indians in 21st place. Indians head coach Kevin Barnes tells KNIA Sports his top runners are performing at a high level.
“Logan and Jeb continue to be very strong for us. Both ran very well and we will rely on them heavily.”
The Indians boys will next compete Saturday, while the girls will wait until next Thursday.
The Indians volleyball team went back and forth with the Eagles of Pella Christian in Little Hawkeye Conference action, with the Indians winning a thriller five-set contest 3-2. Set one was squarely on the side of the Indians with a 25-8 victory, but the Eagles bounced back for a set two 24-26 win. The Indians rallied to set up game point in set three with a 25-19 victory, but the Eagles came back and took set four 24-26 to set up the pivotal fifth set. Set five was tied at 8 apiece, the Eagles then took a 12-10 lead, but the Indians pulled it out to win 16-14. The Indians improve to 10-7 on the season, and will next play on Tuesday at Dallas Center-Grimes.
The biggest meet ever in the history of Iowa High School boys golf took place yesterday at Veenker golf course in Ames, with the Indianola boys golf squad earning a middle-of-the-pack finish with 337 points. One hundred and sixty kids competed in the event, with the Indians paced by Jackson Overton and Max Trembley each shooting an 81. Full team results were not available.
