The Simpson football team saw a 14-point halftime lead disappear in the second half against Dubuque Saturday night on the road, only for the squad to force two turnovers on downs late in the fourth quarter to hang on for a 21-14 win against the Spartans. The first half was all Simpson, with Sam Bartlett scoring a pair of receiving touchdowns from quarterback Tanner Krueger as the Storm dominated to a 14-0 halftime lead. It did not take the Spartans long to answer back in the second half however, scoring quickly in the third and then again with 11:38 left in the third to tie the score. The Storm drove down again however, and Krueger threw a long strike to Joe Mcnally for a 28-yard touchdown, to give the Storm a lead they would not relinquish. Joe Meyer rushed 32 times for 154 yards to lead the squad, while Bartlett had 69 yards receiving a two touchdowns. The defense also forced the Spartans to go 0-3 on fourth down conversions. The Storm improve to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in American Rivers Conference play, and will host Buena Vista next Saturday.
