It is officially autumn, which means Pella’s favorite flowers will soon be underground, getting ready for their prime time next spring. Pella Community Services Director Jeanette Vaughan says the city is preparing to plant a record number of tulips ahead of the 85th annual Tulip Time. Vaughan says several volunteers help them plant bulbs in city parks and along streets throughout the last half of October into early November. Vaughan says those who would like to help the city with more than 120,000 tulips should contact the Pella Community Services department. Between the city, Pella Historical Society, Pella Corporation, and Fair Haven Gardens, approximately 300,000 tulip bulbs are planted annually in Pella.
