During the most recent Knoxville School Board meeting the board approved the purchase of two new buses for the district. The decision comes following a recent collision involving one of the districts buses that could result in the decommissioning of the bus due to the damage it sustained. The approval also comes before a new state law goes into effect that requires all new school buses to have seat belts installed. Knoxville School’s Superintendent Cassi Pearson tells KNIA/KRLS News with the new legislation not in effect yet the board felt it was the right time to purchase the buses as the district tends to purchase new buses annually anyway. Pearson says the district will use the buses as activity buses and will they will wait to see how the new legislation plays out before their next purchase of new school buses. The two buses the district decided on were a 2021 gasoline powered 77 passenger bus and 2021 diesel powered 77 passenger bus, both from Hoglund Bus Company for a total of $181,740.
