It was slow and methodical, but in the end, it was a 24-0 victory for Pella over Knoxville Friday night in a game heard live on both 95.3 KNIA and 92.1 KRLS. The Little Dutch struck first on a one-yard run by Ryan Mace following a Knoxville fumble, and it was 10-0 Pella at the half when Silas Vanderhoff nailed a 23-yard field goal. Mace hit Josh Warner on a 49-yard strike in the third, and River Baker on an eight-yard score in the fourth for the final margin of victory. But the story of the night was field position and the Pella defense. In 12 drives, Knoxville’s best starting field position was their own 35-yard line, and defensive coordinator Ben Bollard says he was proud of his guys for not letting the Panthers march down the field. Knoxville managed just 151 yards of offense on the night. For Pella, Nolan Clayberg ran for 129 yards on 23 carries, while Warner caught a career high five passes for 116 yards and the score. Pella improves to 3-2 on the season and will travel to South Tama next Friday night. Knoxville drops to 4-1 and will play at Grinnell.
