The voting participation by students at Simpson College during the last midterm election increased by 15.7 percent in last year’s election and is more than 11 percentage points higher than the national average. In the leadup to the election, the nonpartisan John C. Culver Public Policy Center and several other student engagement programs conducted nonpartisan voter registration drives and sponsored educational programs designed to boost student voter turnout and engagement in the democratic process. The report is part of the National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement, conducted by the Institute for Democracy & Higher Education (IDHE) at Tufts University’s Tisch College of Civic Life. Overall, the report shows that college student voting in elections was doubled nationwide.
