The City of Pella is partnering with Wonder Spelen, a local non-profit, to create an all-inclusive playground at Kiwanis Park. Wonder Spelen, Dutch for “miracle play,” was created by the Pella Kiwanis Club to help achieve the goal of building an inclusive playground that creates a sense of community, where children and adults of all ages and abilities can come together to play side by side. Other planned park improvements include permanent restroom facilities, sidewalks and off-street parking. The project will take place at Pella’s Kiwanis Park located at 1335 Orchard Drive. The estimated cost of is $863,000, with the city agreeing to fund up to $320,000 towards the project, with Wonder Spelen fundraising for the remaining $543,000. Master planning for the park project is currently underway and is expected to be completed in mid-October. Construction on the project will likely begin in Spring 2021.
