Week two of the district football season could have massive playoff implications as 4-1 Pleasantville travels to Eagle Lane to compete against 1-4 Pella Christian this evening.
Both the Trojans and Eagles earned convincing wins to kick off Class 1A, District 7 competition, and a victory for either team tonight could prove to make a huge difference in the race for an automatic playoff qualifying bid.
Pella Christian is coming off of their first win of the 2019 season, and more importantly, are healthy and will start their full lineup together for the first time this fall. Head Coach Rich Kacmarynski says they’ve seen significant growth despite the grueling non-district slate and several key injuries, and believes their best football is still ahead of them.
Pleasantville and their run-heavy attack continues to show strength, led by a remarkable first five games for Cale Anthony, as the senior is averaging 9.7 yards per carry and has already scored 17 rushing touchdowns. His 1057 yards on the ground leads Class 1A, and Trojans Head Coach Mack Jorth says they have to stay ahead of the chains and fight hard at the line of scrimmage against what he feels is a talented Eagles defense.
Tonight’s Class 1A District 7 showdown with local teams begins at 7 p.m., with pregame coverage at 6:30 on both 92.1 KRLS and the KNIA3 stream.
