The Central College football team used diverse looks and multiple contributors to rack up 547 yards in a soggy 45-14 football victory at Luther College Saturday, as heard live on 92.1 KRLS. It was the third time in four games that the Dutch have topped the 500-yard mark. They’re averaging 526.3 yards for the season. Wide receiver Erik Knaack had three touchdowns and 135 yards from scrimmage for the Dutch, now 4-0 overall, 2-0 American Rivers.
A muddy field didn’t slow the Central College men’s soccer team as it completed a clean sweep of top-10 opponents this season with a 3-2 victory over No. 9 Loras College Saturday afternoon. The Dutch, 10-1-1, and 2-0-0 in league play, had also beaten No. 8 Luther College 2-1 last Saturday. It’s the first victory for Central over Loras since October 22, 2008. Despite a valiant effort, the Central College women’s soccer team was defeated by Loras College 3-1 Saturday afternoon. Central’s soccer teams will go to Lincoln, Nebraska on Wednesday for an 8 p.m. match against Nebraska Wesleyan.
Running against its stiffest competition yet, the Central College men’s cross country team was sixth of 16 teams at the Dan Huston Invitational Saturday. Central compiled 165 team points. The host school, Wartburg College, won the team crown with 37. Wartburg’s Sam Pinkowski won the 8,000-meter race in 26 minutes, 8.6 seconds. Missing two of its best five runners, the Central College women’s finished in eighth place at the same race. Central totaled 258 points while Washington University – St. Louis won the team title with 34. Next up for Central runners is the Jim Drews Invitational in Ettrick, Wisconsin on Saturday, October 19 at 11 a.m.
