The Environmental Protection Agency recently released the details last Friday on the Renewable Fuel Standards, which upholds the minimum requirement of more than 15 billion gallons of conventional ethanol be blended into the nation’s fuel supply beginning in 2020. Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds tells KNIA News this is a big win for the state.
“I just appreciate that President Trump said he is going to support the farmers, he is trying to balance the workforce for small refinery waivers and farmers. When we met with him at the White House, he indicated that he not only wanted to make farmers whole from before the waivers, but to do better than that. Our main objective with the unified industry, which is really important, they came together with a couple of non-negotiables, was to honor the statute, the law. That says 15 billion gallons is 15 billion gallons, and we were able to do that with the deal they were able to work on.”
The EPA also stated they were considering expanding the Renewable Fuel Standard to more than the current 15 billion gallons in the future, possibly as soon as next year.
