The City of Indianola recently received authorization from the Indianola City Council to apply for a FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant to help the city pay for upgrades to the storm siren system. City Manager Ryan Waller tells KNIA News the grant would allow the system to be replaced as needed.
“What we are trying to do is apply for the grant to make the sirens much more modern. It is worth pointing out that the city owns and maintains the sirens, but it is the county that activates them in the case of a weather warning when it needs to go off, they are the ones activating it.”
Waller also said the Indianola Fire Department has been doing a fantastic job studying the right locations for the sirens and maintaining the current ones to make sure they are all in working order.
