The Pleasantville Trojans traveled to Woodward-Granger Friday evening in a critical Class 1A District 7 matchup, as heard live on KNIA3. It was a rather sloppy performance from both teams on the coldest night of the season so far, but Woodward-Granger was able to capitalize in key situations, while Pleasantville was stymied from start to finish. In the end, it was a 20-0 Hawk victory over the Trojans.
After three straight punts to start the game, Woodward-Granger capitalized on a 40-yard pass from Reece Jamison to Bryce Achenbach, making way for runningback Tate Lettow to punch it in from one yard out to take a 6-0 lead. Each team turned it over on downs and punted several times, and it would remain a 6-0 game at halftime.
Woodward-Granger got the ball first to start the second half, and they went on a seven play drive, capped off by a Jamison to Achenbach 22-yard touchdown pass to make it 14-0 after the successful 2-point conversion. Later in the quarter, fullback Kade Polich turned a routine dive play into a 69-yard scoring scamper, capping off a one-play drive to make it 20-0.
The fourth quarter consisted of several turnovers and punts, and neither team would have any more scoring opportunities. The game quietly ended with the 20-0 score. Pleasantville coach Mack Jorth said that while his team’s defense battled well, they didn’t have any answers to what the Hawks were doing defensively.
Pleasantville is now 4-3 overall on the season and 1-2 in district play. They’ll play their final two regular season games at home, starting with a Week 8 contest against Interstate 35.
